A lot of young girls like to make bracelets for fun. Nine year old Bethany Walker has fun making bracelets too but she started making them for a more important reason. She makes bracelets as a way to raise money for her best friend, Anne Marie.
Anne Marie has a rare skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa. The disease will cause her to break out into blisters if you even lightly touch her. This makes it challenging for her to play with friends and live a normal lifestyle. There is no cure for this disease but a salt water pool is suppose to be a great treatment for healing the blisters.
Bethany created "Bracelets by Bethany" as a way to raise money for her friend. She has been selling them on Facebook to generous people all across the nation. Bethany was able to raise enough money to help Anne Marie's family build a salt water pool in their back yard. Anne Maria said, "spending time with my family" is her favorite part about having the pool.
This story is a reminder that the power of friendship transcends age. Bethany took action when she knew her friend needed help. Bethany believed she could make a positive difference and was not afraid to act on that belief. Don't let fear keep you from taking the action needed to help those in your life.
